Boppy Breastfeeding Pillow: One of Those Fantastic Breastfeeding Accessories to Help Make Nursing a Success
We had our first baby in Corsica, France. When my mom came to attend the birth, I had her bring a Boppy Breastfeeding Pillow all the way from America. When I was first learning to nurse, I found this pillow a life-saver. Using pillows on your right, left and over your tummy can help raise baby to the right height, preventing sore nipples and added strain on mom’s body. But I found using 3 or more pillows every time my son wanted to nurse was a hassle.
With the Boppy, I could position quickly (and you know you want to be quick when you have a hungry, crying baby on your hands!). Plus, it could easily move with me from room to room so I could set up to nurse more easily.
The Boppy Breastfeeding Pillow Design
I love this new, wider Boppy design. I found the one I purchased seven years ago was a little narrow for my recovering pregnant belly. They’ve redesigned the Boppy with a “stretch panel” to fit all waist sizes.
When I purchased mine, I didn’t have the option to choose a slipcover. Your Boppy will get covered in baby spit up, breast milk, drool and who knows what else! Using a slip cover is great because it makes washing easy! You’ll love this 100% organic cotton slipcover. However, if you opt to use the Boppy as is, you’ll find you can throw it in the washing machine as well.
Nursing Twins with the Help of a Breastfeeding Pillow

When we were blessed with twins for our 4th and 5th babies, I knew I would do my best to nurse them no matter what ittook. It took practice, coaching from a Lactation Consultant and patience but I don’t think I’d would have had as successful a start without the use of the TWIN Nursing Pillow.
For months, I nursed my twins in the football hold position on this U-shaped pillow. It is similiar in design to the Boppy but thicker and larger to accommodate twins!
Start Your Nursing Relationship Off Right
I mainly used the Boppy Breastfeeding Pillow as a nursing aid in the first few months. But these months are crucial. I have heard many stories of moms who have a rough start nursing and then give-up.
With my first born, I was positioning him wrong and suffered from sore and bloody nipples for weeks. Thankfully, I persevered with the encouragement of a La Leche League leader!
The health and relational benefits of nursing make persevering through sore nipples, poor positioning, and fussiness (just to name a few obstacles new moms face) worth the effort.
So, being prepared with tools that will help you get off to a good start is well-worth the investment!
Multiple Uses for the Boppy Breastfeeding Pillow
I continued to use my Boppy for months after I ceased using it to help me breastfeed.
How to Get the Most Out of Your Boppy Breastfeeding Pillow:
- Mix “traditional” tummy time up by propping baby tummy down on the u-shaped pillow. This also helps baby
strengthen his neck.
- When baby is first learning to sit up, he’ll need extra support. Sit him inside of the “U”. Not only will the pillow support him in mastering this new skill, but you’ll feel safer knowing when baby topples over, he’ll be cushioned in his fall.
- Let baby lie down with the upper part of his back and head propped up by the pillow. Baby will be happier with more to look at from this position than from just lying flat on his back. Plus, propping baby up like this after a feeding will decrease his chances of experiencing acid reflux.
